SPRINGFIELD POST 176 BASEBALL

Post 176 has sponsored an American Legion baseball team for 75 years. The team regularly fields a highly competitive team comprising 18 Varsity/College level players from the West Springfield, Lake Braddock, South County, and John R. Lewis high school boundaries. WHY AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL?

Playing Time Opportunities: We offer extensive playing time opportunities that are hard to come by in our area. Our league plays 9-inning games, making us one of the few leagues to offer this level of competition. With over 20 regular season games, along with District and State tournaments, you'll have plenty of chances to showcase your skills. That plus our roster size of 18 players ensures that everyone gets a lot of opportunities to step up to the plate and/or take to the mound.

Competitiveness: Many of our former players have played at the college level, while others have successfully walked on to their school team or played club ball.

Cost: It costs a fraction of what other travel organizations charge because of the generous sponsorship from our post.

History: American Legion Baseball is the oldest and largest baseball program in America, with over 8 million teenagers playing since 1925. 65% of Major League Baseball players and 75% of all college players played American Legion Baseball as teenagers. The National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum honors the American Legion Player of the Year with a plaque at the annual induction ceremony in Cooperstown, New York.
